Biography:
Joseph E. Stanton (Joe) 61, of Augusta passed away on 5/11/2015 at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by loving family.
He was born in North Olmsted, OH on March 6, 1954 to Francis and Rita Stanton.
Joe never sat still. He worked as a Merchant Seaman on the Great Lakes, he welded nuclear submarines at Electric Boat and he was a Planner and Supervisor at Bath Iron Works. He then became a Computer Programmer at Bath Iron Works and finally did Production Control at the Science Source. He also owned and managed rental properties in partnership with his wife.
He loved ballroom dancing most of all. He also loved photography, mountain-biking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, working on tractors and fixing things with the unbelievable number of tools that he had.
He was a member of the Central Maine Ballroom Dance Society, the Capital Area Camera Club and Augusta Trails.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen “Sukey” Sikora of 17 years, his daughter Michaela Hutchinson and her husband Shawn, his stepson Ian Sikora and his fiancé Mindy Sewall, his good friend and brother Pat Stanton, his crazy, wonderful sisters Chris Reed, Kathy Gabler, Rita Stanton, Mary Smith and Betty Behrend, and his sweet pussycat Zoey.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Peggy Stanton and his brother Mike Stanton.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the South Parish Congregational Church, 9 Church Street, Augusta, ME 04330.
