Bruce W. McClenahan
Bruce Wallace McClenahan—a beloved father, papa, brother, husband, and friend passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at the age of 84, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough, surrounded by his family and in the full glow of their love.
Bruce’s life was defined not just by what he accomplished, but by the relationships he built and the people he touched along the way. He was born with a magnetic charm and an extraordinary ability to connect with people. He carried that gift with him through every chapter of his life, including his final months.
Bruce was born in Philadelphia in 1942 to Jean, a nurse, and Dr. William McClenahan, a physician. As the eldest sibling, outnumbered by two sisters, he was a hero/tyrant whose mixture of affection and mischief-making inspired both annoyance and adoration. Childhood shenanigans solidified the trio, forming a bond that lasted a lifetime.
Bruce enlisted in the Army Medical Corps just as the Vietnam War was escalating. He was assigned to a hill in North Central Vietnam, near the front lines, called “LZ Baldy.” In just three months, he transformed “Baldy” from a few medical tents on a hill into a fully functioning field hospital. With his characteristic charm and people skills, he managed to pull together everything and everyone he needed to accomplish his goal. His leadership abilities were quickly recognized. In that short time, he was promoted from Second to First Lieutenant and ultimately to Captain. He was also awarded a Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement. Sadly, Bruce was among the many who served in Vietnam and were exposed to Agent Orange, which contributed to health problems later in his life. “Captain Mac” ultimately sacrificed his life in service to his country. He was, and will always be, a hero to his family and to the people who served with him.
Bruce returned from Vietnam and settled in New York City, where he met, fell in love with and married his wife Mary. Together Bruce and Mary eventually traded the energy of New York City for a simpler, more peaceful life in Maine where they started a family and raised their two children Kate and Ben. They found their own version of paradise in Dresden along the banks of the Eastern River, where they built the home and the life they had envisioned.
His marriage came to an end but his capacity for love and connection remained at the heart of who he was. In time he met his husband Jim. Together they built a loving partnership that brought joy, companionship, a community of close friends and a new and cherished chapter to his life.
Bruce is survived by his husband James Blanck; his children, Kate McClenahan and her husband, Rick Emmons, Benjamin McClenahan and his wife, Emily; his sisters Elizabeth McClenahan and Jinny Rogers; his four beloved grandchildren, Liam and Ava Emmons and Jack and Mae McClenahan; his step children Joanna Blanck and her husband Erek Gaines; Emily Mullen, her husband Matt and his step granddaughter Sophie Mullen, and his former wife Mary Lampson.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough who cared for Bruce with extraordinary warmth, compassion, and diligence during the final months of his life. Beyond exceptional professional care, they showered him with the same genuine kindness and affection he poured into the people he loved during his life. There will be a private family burial service in the coming weeks and a celebration of life later this fall. Donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to Maine Veterans’ Home, Scarborough.

Joanne B. Morse, age 84 Passed away on Aug. 12.2026. She was married to her devoted husband Lester R. Morse Sr. of Wiscasset tor 64 years. She was born on Sept. 6, 1942 in Cutler, Maine to Clarence and Myra (Huntley) Harmon.
Tonya L. Medlen, 62, of Auburn, ME went home to be with her heavenly father with her daughter Tasha by her side on June 29th 2026.
Edward E Sensor passed away on July 26, 1926 in Lisbon Maine after a brave battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Burbank California in 1946 and lived in Connecticut and in the Brattleboro Vermont area. He retired in Five Islands Maine.

Howard Nannen, 85, died peacefully at home in Brunswick, Maine, on July 24, after ten years of progressing Alzheimer’s dementia. Although the illness took away many of his abilities, he maintained his positive and kind personality.
David Otto Solmitz carried forward his father Water's lifelong commitment to foster communities and a world in which people live harmoniously with one another. David was born on June 2, 1943, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was raised in Brunswick, Maine, and died peacefully at his home in Phippsburg, Maine, on August 3,2026 , with his wife, Jing Ye, by his side.
Stanley L Libby Jr, age 70, On June 30, 2026, passed away peacefully with loving family at his side. He was receiving care at the Hawthorne House in Freeport Maine for about 1 year. He is the beloved son of Stanley L and Marion S Libby, predeceased and from Freeport.
