Donald Henri Turmenne, Sr., 81, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at Clover Manor Memory Care Unit on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s.
Don was born December 17, 1944, in Lewiston, Maine, to Verna and Albert Turmenne. He grew up in Minot graduating from Edward Little High School in 1963. Over the years, Don volunteered on the Poland Rescue Squad, coached a Poland Farm Ball Team, and volunteered on Poland’s Ricker Memorial Library Board of Trustees. He spent many years as a member of the Country Side Dancers in Lewiston and was a longtime member of the Springbrook Golf Course in Leeds.
He was a hardworking, loving man who believed in keeping busy and making the most of each day. For many years, Don worked for Food City in Lewiston, Lisbon Falls, and Bridgton, serving as both a produce manager and store manager.
Don was a fun-loving fellow, always ready with a smile and a laugh. He had a genuine love for life and for the people around him. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, country dancing with his wife, reading, photography, gardening, and farming. He was happiest when he had something to work on, something to learn, or someone to share a laugh with.
Later in life, Don developed a saving faith in Jesus Christ, and that faith became an important part of who he was. He treasured many years of devoted fellowship, learning, growing in his faith, and striving to become more Christlike. He was an active member of East Auburn Baptist Church and later attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Don leaves behind his beloved wife of 36 years, Susan, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his brother Richard Turmenne of Sumter, SC, his ex-wife and mother of his children Patricia Turmenne of Poland, his children, Donald Turmenne, Jr. (Teresa) of Oxford; Penny Drumm (Richard Arsenault) of Poland; Jenny Jack of Clifton Forge, Virginia; and stepdaughter Belinda Pare (Wesley Richards) of Lisbon; as well as 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert Turmenne and Verna Pelchat and stepfather George Pelchat; his brothers, Roger, Albert, and Raymond; his sisters, Jeanette and Joan; and his daughter, Stacy.
Don will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His laughter, his warm smile, his hardworking spirit, and the love he shared with those around him will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior.
Visiting hours will be held at Funeral Alternatives in Lewiston from 10:00-12:00 on Saturday, August 29, 2026, immediately followed by a memorial service. Pastor Mark Casavant of East Auburn Baptist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who knew and loved Don to remember him by sharing a smile, lending a helping hand, spending time with family, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the blessings of life—just as Don did.
