Biography:

Gregory S. Barbour, 79 of Leeds, passed away on Tuesday, August 27 at Hospice House in Auburn with his family by his side.

Greg was born in North Monmouth on July 18, 1934 the son of Stanley and Regina Arsenault Barbour.

He was educated in North Monmouth schools and graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1952. He then entered the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1956.

On July 27, 1957 he married Carol E. Hinds at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop.

He started his career in the printing trade as a linotype operator for the Lewiston Sun- Journal and later the Franklin Journal in Farmington. As the printing trade became computerized he completed studies in the Real Estate and Insurance fields. He was licensed as a real estate broker and Insurance Representative. He finished his career as an agent for the Prudential Insurance Company.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and upon his retirement in 1991 pursued these hobbies to the fullest extent. He also enjoyed traveling and along with his wife Carol, spent many winters in different areas of Florida.

In later years he enjoyed reading and was a fixture at the Julia Adams Morse Memorial Library in Greene. He also enjoyed attending sporting events and school activities that his grandchildren were involved in.

He was a member of the Monmouth American Legion Post 204.

Greg will be remembered as a great man who was well liked and respected by all. He was always willing to help others. His love and devotion to his family will never be forgotten.  He will be missed but will remain in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol E. Barbour; daughters, Theresa A. Baillargeon, of Wayne; Tina M. Barbour, of Litchfield; and son Scott A. Barbour, of Pine Knot, KY. Also seven grandchildren; his sisters, Carole Eaton, who passed away just hours later, of South Portland; Jackie Lapointe of Augusta; one brother, James Barbour of Newfield.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Kathleen who died in 1946.

At the request of the deceased there will be no services. Friends may visit/call Saturday, September 7 at their home in Leeds from 2:00 to 4:00.
