Karen Ann Coye

Date of Death: January 7, 2019

Date of Birth: March 17, 1953

Biography:

Karen Ann Coye, 65 of Naples, Maine passed away on January 7, 2019 at Central Maine Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born on March 17,1953 a daughter of the late Fred and Eleanor Wilfert of Lincoln, Massachusetts.

Karen was born in Concord and grew up in Lincoln, Massachusetts with her parents and two brothers where she was an avid participant in 4-H and girl scouts. She was a graduate of UMass Amherst where she majored in recreation. She spent a semester at the University of Idaho where she spent her free time hiking and even learning to skydive, safely landing in a mud puddle!

Karen was employed at North Country Outfitters in Concord where she did bookkeeping before pursuing her love of animals as a Veterinary Assistant in Acton, Massachusetts. In 1983 she moved to Naples, Maine, got married, settled into her forever home and started a family.

For many years after moving to Maine, Karen owned her own business named the “Rural Responder” where she designed and manufactured soft-pack equipment for Emergency Services far and wide. She also used her stitching talent to work in various other capacities before deciding to work in food service for the Lake Region School System.

Karen loved playing games with her family, especially Skip-Bo, mind games and jigsaw puzzles. She loved planning family dinners, where she would often try new recipes. She enjoyed taking family trips, creating lifelong memories with her family that they will always cherish. One of Karen’s greatest joys in life was being a part of many clubs and organizations that her children loved. Whatever they did, she was there volunteering, supporting and enjoying.  She left a positive impact on many people in the community with her involvement and all who met Karen remember her by how genuine, sweet and friendly she was.

Karen enjoyed sewing, making many beautiful keepsakes and elaborate quilts for friends and family. The beauty of her talents were recently on full display at her daughter Emily and son-in-law Justin’s wedding where for months she spent tireless, and many unseen hours putting together an incredible wedding display for them.

Karen is fondly remembered by her husband David Coye, along with her son Buster Coye and his significant other Alyssa Maynard of Naples, Maine, her daughter Emily Smith and her husband Justin Smith of Casco, Maine and her first grandchild due in June 2019. She is also remembered by her brother Rick Wilfert of Sandpoint, Idaho, brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Jude Wilfert, niece and nephew Jesse and Kris Wilfert of Boxborough, Massachusetts, and many other family members and friends all of whom love her very much.

Karen was predeceased by her parents, and a sister-in-law, Jan Wilfert of Sandpoint, Idaho.

Per Karen’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held in the spring. Her family will be providing her with a special aerial scattering and tree planting. Donations can be made in her memory to the Humane Society of the United States 1255 23rd Street, NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20037. This is a charity, among many others, that she was fond of donating to.
