Biography:

Donald E. Emmons, 86, of Brunswick, peacefully passed away July 3, 2019, in Freeport, Maine, surrounded by his family.  He was born May 13, 1933, Donald, aka“Slim” was the son of Louie and Florence Caron Emmons. Slim attended school in Brunswick and was a long-time Brunswick resident. Slim enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17 and served over 14 years until his honorable discharge at the rank of Staff Sargent. Slim married the love of his life Barbra White on October 15, 1966, the two spent 42 years together until her untimely passing on June 28, 2008.  Slim was a life time member of 54 years at the Elks BPOE 2043, an organization that he was dedicated and passionate about. He spent 50 years, working on community outreach programs held by his local lodge improving the lives of those within the Brunswick community. He worked at Harry Crooker and Sons and Alfred Senters Store. He became the 10th full time firefighter for the town of Brunswick in 1958. Slim’s father passed down the legacy of firefighting as a member of the Brunswick Fire Department for many years. Slim retired after serving over 30 years within the Department, a legacy that he then passed down to his son Stephen.His passion for firefighting continues on with Stephen and 3 of Slim’s grandson’s.. He is predeceased by his wife Barbra White Emmons, Grandson Mark E. Bickford Jr., 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his son Stephen D. Emmons and fiancé Rebecca Melanson, daughter Lorna Withers and husband Jack, step children Catherine Theriault, Debra Murphy and husband Mike, Mark Bickford and wife Natalie, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Slim’s ability to make you smile and laugh will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. His presence was well-known and loved by many as his generous nature and willingness to help others without seeking anything in return was one of his greatest strengths. Slim’s love of the fire service and servant’s heart will forever live on in his children and grandchildren. Services will be held at Pathways Vineyard Church Brunswick on July 12, 2019 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Brunswick Professional Firefighter’s Muscular Dystrophy Association Boot Drive.
