Date of Birth: April 6, 1922

Biography:

BATH – Regis J. Fortin, 93, formerly of 6 Marshall Ave, Bath, died May 16, 2015 at Hillhouse Assisted Living Facility after a long illness.

He was born April 6, 1922, in Brunswick, ME, the son of Ludger J. and Laura (Bard) Fortin. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1938, in what was then the first class to graduate from the new high school.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II. Following the completion of training in the Aviation Cadet Program, he became a bombardier Navigator Instructor to Cadets from France. He also served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict, being discharged as a First Lieutenant.

He was employed at Bath Iron Works and retired in August of 1985 after Forty Four and one half years of service.

A longtime member of the Brunswick Elks Lodge, actively involved with the Santa Claus Fund since the Bath-Brunswick Lodge took over this project in the mid 80's.
Regis, along with his wife, Mamie, loved to help and volunteer. Neither could or would say no and were involved in numerous activities until age finally made them slow down. They spent many summers in Mississippi, Mamie's home, enjoying the trip down and back as much as their stay.

Regis was predeceased by his wife, Mamie E. (Clay) Fortin, a sister, Gloria S. Fortin of Brunswick, a brother, Sulgence (Phil) Fortin, and a stepdaughter, Donna R. Smith of Passiac, NJ.

Surviving are a brother, Reginald and his wife Pauline of Sabattus; a sister, Mrs. Prudence Brandenburg and husband Robert of San Diego, CA; and two stepsons, David Smith and wife Margo of Bath; and Dale Smith and wife Dena of Georgetown; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Section 2 South, in Bath on May 27th, 2015 at 10:30am.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005, or to the American Cancer Society of Brunswick, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, Maine 04086.

The families of Regis and Mamie Fortin would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the staff and employees of Hillhouse Assisted Living for their compassion, patience, and understanding during their stay.
