Rolande LeCompte LaPointe

Date of Death: February 14, 2012

Date of Birth: January 20, 1944

Biography:

LEWISTON — Rolande LeCompte LaPointe, 68 of Lewiston, lost her 10 year battle with cancer on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

She was born in Lewiston to Ruth Larrivee LeCompte and Roland LeCompte on Jan. 20, 1944, and though she loved to travel, she chose to live there all her life. She was proud of her hometown and her Franco-American heritage, instilling this pride in her children and grandchildren.

Rolande graduated from Lewiston High School in 1961, where she played the trumpet in the school band. She was overjoyed to help plan and attend her 50th class reunion last fall. She was married to Richard LaPointe for 37 years, remaining lifelong friends after their divorce.

Throughout her career, Rolande worked in many capacities to help support her family. She was well-loved for her contagious energy and sense of humor and made several cherished friendships at each job. In 1987, she opened her own career counseling/placement agency called RO-LAN Associates Inc. and remained in business for 15 years before her health issues forced her to retire.

Through her work, she helped countless people gain skills and employment, often using her own money and resources to help her less fortunate clients. She was the winner of multiple national resume writing awards — including one for a resume for Santa Claus. She became a published writer with work in more than 35 career-related publications and software. She had many interests over the years, ranging from calligraphy, painting, sailing, travel, horticulture, jewelry and caring for her beloved birds.

Rolande loved her family deeply. She was a vibrant life force and a true matriarch who strived to keep the family connected.

She is survived by her sister, Pauline Nota and brother-in-law, Joseph Nota, of Lewiston; her brother, Eugene LeCompte of Greene; two sons, Kevin LaPointe and his partner, Kevin Egers, of Farmington and Derek LaPointe of Leeds; her daughter, Rhonda LaPointe-Lachance and husband, Michael Lachance, of Portland; her nieces, Richelle Nota Wallace, Carissa Nota Arnold and Tara Weeks; and nephews, Scott Nota and Christopher LeCompte, were like her own children; her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Charlotte Lachance, Lana LaPointe and Jason LaPointe.

The LaPointe family would also like to thank the skilled and compassionate nursing staff on M1 at CMMC in Lewiston.

A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, Feb. 24, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Funeral Alternatives, 25 Tampa St., Lewiston. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Lewiston. The family asks that, in lieu of sending flowers, you honor Rolande’s passion for helping others by making a donation to The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing, 10 High St., Suite 301, Lewiston, ME 04240, www.dempseycenter.org.
