Harry "Kip" Leight

Date of Death: September 20, 2014

Date of Birth: April 22, 1941

Biography:

Kip died from cancer and its complications at age 73. He was born in 1941 in Baltimore, Md. and died at the Hospice House on Sept. 20, 2014.  Kip leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Ellie Leight, sisters Robyn of Reston, VA and Sherry of MD and two nephews and their children.  He was a resident of Maine for 11 years, a place he loved sight unseen and chose after retirement in California. He began his working life as a state policeman in Maryland until he was drafted during the Vietnam era. He was assigned to the Intelligence Unit in Washington D.C. during that enlistment and then went to work for the D.C. Police dept. as an undercover agent to monitor anti war activity during that time. He met Ellie while doing that work and they eventually spent a summer in Europe and then moved to Sacramento where he enrolled in college and achieved a degree in Fine Arts. After a move to Monterey, Ca he became an accomplished furniture and cabinet maker until he retired. Kip has been loved and liked by all who met him. He went to great lengths to help and assist family members and anyone who had a need that he could see. He loved building houses and making things new again, and he certainly had the many talents that the work required. He will be very sadly missed by his wife and family.
