Date of Death: April 28, 2017

Date of Birth: November 2, 1929

Biography:

Andre Marquis—Lewiston—Andre Marquis, 87, of Lewiston, went to the arms of God on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn after a long illness. Born in Lewiston, he was the son of Theodore and Melanie Boutin Marquis. He attended Lewiston schools. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII, stationed in the Marshall Islands. Andre married Ethel Pagurko of Pejepscot in 1952 and was devastated when she passed away in March 2010 after 58 years of marriage. Andre worked most of his life in the construction industry. He was a project manager for Harriman Architects for many years, supervising many large projects, including the Telstar Earth Station facility in Andover, Jay High School, the first Union Mutual building on outer Congress Street, the U.S. Federal Building and Post Office in Portland and the physicians' building at St. Mary's Hospital. He was then employed as the Project Manager at St. Mary's Hospital, supervising the construction of many additions to that facility. In his semi- retirement years, he was employed by the Lewiston Police Department, maintaining the car fleet and a meter route. His sons and grandsons inherited his love for tools and building and his children remember him building the only ice rink in the neighborhood, and spending hours there skating and playing hockey. Although he complained about the noise and the toys, Pepere cherished the visits he received from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to family time, he enjoyed watching the Bruins, cooking and gardening. In October of 2016, he traveled to Washington DC with his son David as part of the Honor Flight Maine contingent. He was very proud that he had sons who served in the Army, Navy and Air Force. Andre is survived by his ten beloved children and their spouses: Dennis and (Louise) of Lisbon, Joline Barth and (Rick) of Jacksonville, FL, Elaine Roper (John) of Scarborough, Diane of Lewiston, Paul (Donna) of Sabattus, Armand (Carrie) of Lewiston, David (Laura) of Greene, Brian of Lewiston, Rita of Randolph and Dean (Jenny) of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Andre leaves his much loved sister, Jacqueline Bellegarde and brother-in-law Roger, who he enjoyed spending Saturday lunch time with over the past several years. Andre's family wishes to send grateful thanks to the wonderful staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, whose care enabled him to remain at home until close to the end. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made them at 15 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, Maine 04042. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica, 122 Ash Street, Lewiston. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Switzerland Road, Lewiston. Arrangements by Funeral Alternatives, Lewiston.
