Biography:

Brunswick - John Anthony Francis Romano, 87, died Wednesday, June 08, 2016 at his home in Brunswick, Maine, following a lengthy and heroic battle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Beverly (Fountain) Romano, seven children, 15 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Jeanne Marie. Born and raised in Portland, the son of Joseph John Romano and Maria Amelia Guiseppina (Picarelli) Romano, he was a lifelong resident of his beloved state of Maine. He is a World War II veteran, who after serving in the United States Navy, was initially employed by Cushman’s Bread Company in Portland. He subsequently was employed for more than 30 years as a Master Plumber/Steamfitter. Upon his retirement at age 60, he began a second career as the Building Manager for the Portland Masonic Temple – a fitting position, since he was a dedicated member of the Masons. Mr. Romano had a passion for painting, gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved to travel and made numerous cross country treks with the love of his life -- his best friend and wife Beverly. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the West Buxton Baptist Church, 62 Parker Farm Road, Buxton, ME 04093, beginning at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions enabling needy children to attend Camp Good News, a ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Maine, be sent to: Camp Good News, 413 Campground Road, Livermore Falls, ME 04254.
