Edith Rossignol

Date of Death: July 13, 2017

Date of Birth: January 30, 1920

Biography:

BOWDOIN - Edith Rossignol, 97, passed away peacefully in Bowdoin on July 13th, with family by her side. She was born to the late Harold and Alice Webster on January 30, 1920.

Edith graduated from Gorham High School, graduating early. She always credited this to her love of reading, something instilled in her by her father at a very early age. She later attended secretarial school in Portland.

She married the love of her life, Nelson Rossignol, in 1941 and they later adopted twin daughters, Patricia and Penelope. The family bought a house on Day Road in Gorham.

She lost her husband, Nelson, in 1959 to cancer. Edith raised her daughters while working full time as a Secretary, first for L C Andrews and later for Greenberg & Greenberg. She prided herself for taking the bus in from Westbrook daily to avoid the Portland traffic. She retired in 1992.

After losing both of her daughters in 2015, Edith moved in with her granddaughter, April, and her great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved to solve her crossword puzzles. When she didn't have a book or crossword puzzle in hand, she was knitting or crocheting. Edith also loved to camp, whether it be at Pine Point or at Pleasant Pond with the family of her daughter Patricia and son-in-law Eugene. But most importantly, she loved being surrounded by her family and friends.

She is survived by her granddaughters, April Benner of Bowdoin, ME and Lisa Barry of Griffin, GA; her great grandchildren, Tyler Washburn, Timothy Lerette, Kaiden Benner, Isabella Benner and Kimberley Holbrook; three nieces and two nephews, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother Elwood Webster and her sister Jeanette Webster Kelley. For funeral arrangements, please contact the family.

The family wishes to express a heartfelt Thanks to the Staff at CHANS Home Health and Hospice, and also to Amy Dominique and Crystal.
