Biography:

Christopher Robert Sawyer, 52 of Gray passed away on March 29th after a brief illness.
Born June 30, 1965 to Robert E. and Nancy E. Sawyer, Chris grew up in South Portland, and graduated SPHS in 1983. In his late teens Chris learned to play and later teach guitar, and from then throughout his mid-30's he played in local alternative rock bands: 3 More Bullets, The Jung Archetypes, Steel Cow, Think Tank, Soul Pilgrim and PCP, singing and rocking stages from Orono to Boston. In 1990 Chris met Mary Louise (Brydon) and from then on they were known as one; in 1994 they were married at Portland Head Light. In 2000 Chris and Mary were blessed with twins, Abraham and Sophia; Chris most loved being a fun father and devoted husband. He also enjoyed mentoring children and coached several baseball and basketball teams in Gray. Chris took extreme pride in his family, and his home on Crystal Lake in Gray, where each year he would invite friends, family and strangers alike for a summer celebration by the lake. Chris was funny and loved to make people laugh; he loved to travel, mountain bike, camp on Jewell Island, snowmobile, alpine and sky ski, and wakeboard.For more than 25 years Chris worked directly for, or with affiliates of Hannaford supermarkets corporate offices (now Ahold Delhaize). Chris most recently was a Private Brand Manager in the Scarborough office, where he took great pride in developing products for the Hannaford and Taste of Inspirations brands. Chris used his humor to ease tension in work meetings and lit up a room with his warm smile, kindness and easy-going presence.Chris is survived by his wife Mary, children Abraham and Sophia and mother Nancy, all of Gray. Chris is predeceased by his father Robert Eaton Sawyer, and survived by his sister Cynthia Mahan and her children Finn and Maggie of New Gloucester, as well as a large extended family.In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice who provided tender loving care to Chris in the comfort of his home:Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice15 Strawberry AvenueLewiston, ME 04240A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, April 14th at the Good Shepherd Methodist Church, 151 W.
