Reginald "Reggie" B. ThorneRumford – Reginald "Reggie" B. Thorne, 89, of Rumford, Maine passed away peacefully August 5 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine supported by his loving family. Reggie was born on January 25, 1929 in Portland, Maine. He is the son of Charlotte Dunham Thorne and Blair E. Thorne. Reggie was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Gerald Thorne and his sister Shirley Thorne Davis.Reggie was a graduate of Stephens High School, class of 1947. He was lovingly married to Joan Lanteigne for 58 years. They remained happy together until Joan's passing in 2013.In high school, he enjoyed working for his Father's Oil Business, and participating in football, basketball and track, and at one point held the Maine High School Record in JavelinReggie was a veteran of the United States Army stationed in Berlin, Germany. He attained the rank of Corporal before returning home to continue working in the Fuel Business. He remains a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. Reggie loved his job, loved the art of the deal, and taking care of his customers to make sure they had heat on a cold winter's night. He worked in the Oil Business until his retirement well into his 70's. Reggie embodied the saying, "a man who loves his job, never works a day in his life".Reggie enjoyed cooking, family gatherings and parties with his family which include daughter Tammy Chiasson, and her husband Dennis of Standish, Maine; Son, Danny Thorne and partner Lynn, of Michigan; Daughter Nancy Parent, and her husband John of Mont Vernon, NH and Son David Thorne and his wife Cindy of Steep Falls, Maine. It is rumored that Reggie invented the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich. At the very least, many rides home after visiting Gram and Bumpa were fueled by these sandwiches, or other goodies packed into a small cooler.Reggie was affectionately known as Bumpa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed oil truck rides, and attending sporting, club and school gatherings with all of his Grandchildren which include Matthew, Standish "Eric" & Katie Chiasson, Jacob & Amelia Parent, and Ethan, Haley and Nick Thorne. And Great Granddaughter, McCailla Millett, and Great Grandson Emerson Chiasson.Reggie was well cared for by the staff at the Fallbrook Woods Living Center memory care unit for many years, and more recently by the excellent staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
