Ernest Cleo True Jr.
1940 - 2018
AUGUSTA - Ernest Cleo True Jr. of Augusta passed away on Aug. 2, 2018, at the age of 77, at Togus Springs after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Augusta, Maine on Oct. 6, 1940 to Ernest C. True Sr. and Marjorie Wentworth Reed. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas where he met the love of his life, Lydia Anna. They were married in Ansbach, Germany on April 29, 1959.
He spent years as the co-owner of Reed Nursing Home in Auburn before moving his family to Augusta and starting his own business Studio Signs. After his business was destroyed by arson he went to work for GTECH/Scientific Games (Maine Lottery) where he would work until his retirement in 2000. Ernie was an avid golfer, he enjoyed all sports from New England, birdwatching, target shooting, politics and traveling. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Beverly and brothers, William and James. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lydia and their six children, Vicky, Bobby, Dian, Lori, Karin and Brian. His nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Per his request there will be no service. Internment will be at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. A celebration of his life will be on Aug. 18, at Green Street Methodist Church at 11 a.m. All are invited. Please share stories and pictures.
