Biography:

Falmouth- Martha L. Willard, 68, of Falmouth, died on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Sedgewood Commons with her loving family at her side.

Martha was born on Sept. 19, 1943 in Framingham, MA, the daughter of Ernest and Cynthia (Keuchler) Furnans.  Although she grew up in Wilbraham, MA, Maine was truly her home most of her adult life.  She acquired her Bachelor of Arts from Skidmore College, Masters of Social Work from Boston University, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Maine.  From 1965 to 1970 she worked for Child and Family Services, and the YWCA as a social worker and after graduating from law school, she worked for the State of Maine Attorney General’s Office.

Martha was part of the Red Hat Society, Appalachian Mt. Club, and the City of Portland School Committee.  She ran the volunteer thrift shop at Junior League, and helped start Children's Museum of Maine.  She enjoyed cats, camping, the ocean, tending her house plants, participating in the church choir, Casco Bay, and Portland’s Eastern Promenade.  She was a very independent and strong person.

She was predeceased by Ernest Furnans and Cynthia and Fred Frey.

She is survived by her sons; Nate and Matthew Willard, brother and sister in law Mark and Karen Furnans, grandchildren Simon and Quianna Willard, niece and nephew Jordan and Joanna Furnans, and several cousins from out of state.

Services for Martha will be private.
